The Embassy of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta to the Republic of Malta is very proud to have been chosen as one of the iconic venues of The Three Palaces festival, which runs from 27 October to 1 November 2026 and takes place exclusively in some of Malta’s most significant historic sites. One of Valletta’s landmarks, St John’s Cavalier joins Verdala Palace, Palazzo Parisio, St Paul’s Cathedral, St John’s Co-Cathedral, the Church of St Francis of Assisi, the Grand Master’s Palace, Palazzo de La Salle and the Auberge d’Aragon in this year’s programme.
Built on the premise that “our ordinary is actually extraordinary”, the festival invites audiences to rediscover the magnificent buildings we pass by every day, through intimate performances in which emerging talents perform alongside established Maltese and international artists. The Embassy shares the festival’s belief that everyone should have access to Malta’s heritage, art and culture, and is delighted to open its doors to the public for this occasion.
On Friday, 30 October at 8 pm, the Embassy will host “…and other stories”, an evening devoted to musical storytelling, with Tricia Dawn Williams (piano), Fiorella Camilleri (flute) and Karol Aquilina (guitar). In the intimate space of this fortress-bastion, the performers will lead the audience through stories told not in words but in rhythm, breath and gesture.
The evening opens with Improvvisando, the first of Edward Zgraja’s Virtuoso Flamenco Studies for Flute, in which the flute becomes storyteller, singer and dancer, drawing on the ancient Andalusian tradition of cante jondo in a homage to Johann Sebastian Bach.
At the heart of the programme, The Toy Piano Corner brings up to five toy pianos to the stage in a sequence of musical miniatures by Phyllis Chen, Olivia Kieffer, Alex Vella Gregory, Dominique Charpentier, Paul Max Edlin, Veronique Vella and Stephen Montague: a carousel, a gift, a vignette, the coming of dawn, inviting listeners to rediscover familiar sounds with the curiosity of childhood.
The concert closes with Paco de Lucía’s Reflejo de Luna and Astor Piazzolla’s Histoire du Tango for flute and guitar, which follows the tango’s journey through the twentieth century, from Bordel 1900 and Café 1930 to Nightclub 1960 and Concert d’aujourd’hui.
