Ambassador participates in New Year’s Greetings with Diplomatic Corps

His Excellency the Ambassador participated in the annual New Year’s greetings with the diplomatic corps, hosted by President Myriam Spiteri Debono at the Grand Master’s Palace in Valletta.

During the ceremony, President Spiteri Debono emphasized Malta’s deep concern over escalating tensions in the Middle East, particularly the conflict between Israel and Hamas. She reiterated Malta’s call for an immediate ceasefire, the release of all hostages, and unhindered humanitarian access to affected areas. The President also highlighted the importance of achieving a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace in Ukraine, grounded in the principles of the United Nations Charter.

Prime Minister Robert Abela, speaking at the Auberge de Castille, emphasized Malta’s active participation in international forums like the UN Security Council and OSCE, advocating for peace in conflict regions. He reaffirmed Malta’s commitment to supporting Ukraine through financial aid, medical assistance, de-mining efforts, and educational reintegration programs in affected areas.

The day ended with a reception hosted by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Hon. lan Borg in honor of the Head of Missions at Xara Lodge. Minister has  reaffirmed that in coming months, it will be essential more than ever for all nations to join forces in upholding the rules-based international order.
