The Embassy of the Sovereign Order in Malta is housed within the historical St John’s Cavalier, an architectural and fortified landmark from the late 1560s. Some areas of the fortress were not accessible to the public until now.

To expand touristic and cultural opportunities for Malta, H. E. the Ambassador Ruffo di Calabria has teamed up with Dr Dane Munro to open St John’s Cavalier to private visits of small discerning groups of tourists or individuals interested in the Order’s history.

Dr Dane Munro, Knight of Magistral Grace, is a highly regarded expert both in tourism and in the history of the Order. He is the President of the Sacra Militia Foundation, an academic organisation which conducts research regarding the Sovereign Military Order of Malta during their stay in Malta (1530-1798).

First opening tour was for a group of Japanese visitors on 2 May 2024 lead by Dr Dane Munro, bringing to life the captivating aspects of the building, sharing stories and insights, and addressing the relevance of the Order in our present times.

Mr Koide, a tourist attending the tour, has commented: ‘From this Knight’s story, I felt that the spirit of chivalry of the Knights of St John has been passed down from one generation of Knights to the next, and I was very surprised and moved by this’.

Visits to the Embassy are against donations to support the charitable activities of the Order.
